Mudslide closes U.S. 101 in Mason County, north of Shelton, WSDOT says

Update: U.S. 101 in Mason County at Purdy Cutoff Road reopened to traffic about 4 p.m. Tuesday, WSDOT announced.

State Route 7 in Lewis County also reopened to traffic Tuesday afternoon.

Heavy rain triggered a mudslide that has closed a section of highway, according to the state Department of Transportation.

U.S. 101 in Mason County, north of Shelton at Purdy Cutoff Road, closed Monday night and remains closed Tuesday.

A detour has been set up at Brockdale Road, according to WSDOT.

“Before we can start any cleanup, we have an engineering geologist looking at the hillside above the highway,” WSDOT officials said via social media Tuesday morning.

Elsewhere, flooding has closed a section of state Route 7 in Lewis County.
