Woman drives wrong way on I-5 from Lacey to DuPont, State Patrol says

A 28-year-old Tacoma woman was taken into custody early Sunday morning after she drove miles the wrong way on Interstate 5, according to Washington State Patrol.

The woman’s gold Honda Civic was first spotted by witnesses near I-5 and Marvin Road in Lacey. More than 11 people called 911 to report that the vehicle was headed north in the southbound lanes of the freeway, according to State Patrol.

Troopers praised those callers because they were able to slow southbound traffic and finally stopped her vehicle near DuPont at Exit 119.

When they did, they discovered the woman had a 3-year-old passenger who was unharmed, according to a news release.

The woman was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence and reckless endangerment.

The child was taken into Child Protective Services’ custody. CPS is called when an impaired driver has a passenger under the age of 16, according to State Patrol.
