Tumwater driver crashes on I-5 ramp Tuesday night, injuring 3 passengers
A 23-year-old driver crashed his vehicle into a tree along Interstate 5 in Tumwater late Tuesday evening, injuring himself and three passengers.
The collision occurred about 9 p.m. when the Tumwater driver tried to exit southbound I-5 at Trosper Road, according to a State Patrol press memo. The driver’s sedan left the ramp and struck a tree.
Three passengers were in the car: a 23-year-old Olympia woman, a 20-year-old Lacey woman and an 18-year-old Olympia man. The two women did not wear seat belts, according to the State Patrol.
All occupants were injured and transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.
Troopers believe drug or alcohol use were a factor in the collision, the memo says, and the driver faces three counts of vehicular assault.
Following the collision, the ramp to Trosper Road was fully blocked for about an hour.
