Lacey police are asking the public to help identify a person believed to have started several fires in the city on Sunday, including one at Komachin Middle School.

Early Sunday, Lacey Fire District 3 crews were dispatched to the school in the 3600 block of College Street Southeast. The school is being remodeled and Battalion Chief Ryan Fox said the fire was contained to an area of new construction. Still, Lacey Sgt. Shannon Barnes said it did “several thousand dollars” in damage.

The fire is considered suspicious and is under investigation, he said.

Two other suspicious fires were reported before the Komachin blaze, Barnes said.

Starting about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, a shopping cart was set on fire in the 3800 block of Pacific Avenue Southeast, followed by a port-a-potty on the Mountain View Elementary campus in the 1900 block of College Street Southeast, Barnes said.

Anyone with information about the fires or suspect is asked to call Lacey police at 360-459-4333 and ask for a detective or South Sound Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
