Downtown Olympia’s Governor Hotel has become The Governor, a Coast Hotel, after joining the Coast Hotels brand, a hotel official and Coast Hotels announced Wednesday.
Coast Hotels operates properties in the western and northwestern United States and Canada. Its U.S. headquarters is in Seattle, said Ryan Kang, director of sales for The Governor.
“We were able to partner up with Coast without having to completely ignore the tradition and uniqueness of the (Governor) hotel,” he said about the deal.
The new brand relationship follows recent changes to the hotel, including a renovated and re-oriented lobby space, and renovations to the hotel’s 123 rooms. Up next is renovation of the exterior of the hotel, including new paint, although they won’t be changing the exterior too drastically, Kang said.

Kang also announced Wednesday that a restaurant is set to open in October in the hotel’s long-vacant space on the lobby level. Kang hinted at a Japanese fusion restaurant on Wednesday, although the details are still being worked out, he said.
Past restaurant tenants have included Southern Kitchen, Ranch House BBQ, Governor’s Grill, and Mijas, a restaurant that had ties to SafePlace, an Olympia nonprofit that provides help and shelter to victims of domestic violence.
“Olympia is a key city for Northwest business and political travelers, and growing in popularity with both regional and national tourists,” said Doug Rigoni, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Coast Hotels, in a statement.
