9 seek Port of Olympia commission appointment

Nine people have applied for the Port of Olympia commission appointment to fill the District 3 seat, according to a news release.

Those who applied by the May 8 deadline were Jerry Farmer, Frederick Finn, Lawrence Goodman, Bob Jones, Michelle Morris, Dick Pust, George Sharp, Bill Wells and E.J. Zita.

Farmer and Jones also have applied to run for the seat, while Zita reportedly is set to file. Pust, a longtime radio host in Olympia, fell short in his run for mayor of Olympia in 2011.

The appointment process was necessary after former commissioner Sue Gunn resigned for health reasons April 1, but the seat also is up for election because she stepped down before the local candidate filing deadline of May 15.

The appointee fills the seat until the general election is certified on Nov. 24.
