South Puget Sound Community College in Thurston County closed all its campuses and facilities on Wednesday after receiving a threat of violence.

College officials reported receiving a phone call Tuesday evening that warned that “targeted violence” may occur on Wednesday, according to a campus alert. Officials immediately contacted law enforcement and decided to close campuses for the day.

The closure affected all student and public services, including virtual services, and in-person classes and activities, according to the alert. The Serendipity Children’s Center at SPSCC’s Olympia campus also was closed.

However, online classes and activities were not canceled and continued as planned, according to the alert.

SPSCC has campuses in Olympia and Lacey that serve more than 6,000 students each year. The college recently made a list of 25 semifinalists competing for a nationwide top community college prize.
