Lacey’s July 3 fireworks show returns to Rainier Vista Park after 2-year absence
The city of Lacey’s annual fireworks display, known to attract thousands of revelers, is set to return to Rainier Vista Park on July 3, a Lacey City Council committee learned Monday.
The pre-Independence Day celebration returns to the park after a two-year absence. The event was canceled in 2020 because of the pandemic, then it was held in a new location and in a pandemic-friendly format in 2021, in which people drove to the show at Chinook Middle School and watched from their vehicles.
Prior to being held at Rainier Vista Park, the fireworks show was staged at William A. Bush park on Yelm Highway, and before that the South Sound Shopping Center next to I-5 off Sleater-Kinney Road. Rainier Vista Park is at 5475 45th Ave SE.
Recreation Manager Sue Falash told the city’s Community Relations and Public Affairs committee on Monday that the July 3 event will feature activities, food booths and two concerts, including a Beach Boys’ tribute band called Good Vibrations. The event will run from 4 to 11 p.m., with the fireworks at 10 p.m.
The city is working with North Thurston Public Schools to provide transportation to and from the park, with buses running every 15 minutes from various schools in the area, Falash said.
