A $962,000 property acquisition on Long Lake? Lacey City Council is considering it
Lacey City Council will consider whether to purchase property next to Long Lake Park at its meeting this week.
The property is at 2802 Boat Launch St. SE and has long been coveted by the city, according to the agenda for Thursday’s council meeting.
The previous owners, the late James and Marcella Floyd, granted the city the right of purchase in October 1983. Now, the couple’s heirs have inquired whether the city is still interested.
The 1.81-acre parcel is located immediately adjacent to Long Lake Park and has a 2,075-square-foot single-family home and 2-car detached garage. The property has 420 feet of lakefront with a wood dock.
“While the home would require improvements to become an ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant facility open to the public, it is in good condition overall,” city documents say. “The deficiencies of the building are in line with those to be expected of a building of its age of 75 years.”
The city has identified advantages and disadvantages of the transaction.
▪ Advantages: The proposed acquisition is identified in the Lacey Parks, Culture, and Recreation Department Comprehensive Plans. The property is adjacent to Long Lake Park, and provides the opportunity to incorporate additional active and passive recreational activities at the park.
▪ Disadvantages: There will be expenditures associated with the acquisition. These costs will be incorporated into the city budget as part of Lacey’s overall parks and open space system. The existing home will require upgrades or reconstruction depending on the ultimate use.
Lacey City Council meets at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 16 at 420 College St SE. The meeting also can be watched online.
