Motorcyclist crashes into horse in Thurston County early Wednesday, killing both

A motorcyclist struck a horse early Wednesday morning in south Thurston County, killing both the driver and animal, according to Washington State Patrol.

About 4:40 a.m., the 28-year-old Oakville man was headed east on US 12 near Rochester when it struck a horse standing in the 10700 block of the highway. He died at the scene.

Trooper John Dattilo said both lanes were shut down for the investigation. The road was closed for nearly two hours, according to State Patrol.
