Man found dead in Lacey Wednesday morning has been identified

A man who was found dead Wednesday morning near a Fred Meyer in Lacey has been identified.

Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock identified the man as Steven Smith, 28. He was found by a resident at about 8:50 a.m. in the area of Seventh Avenue Southeast and Golf Club Road Southeast, Sgt. Shannon Barnes previously told The Olympian.

Smith’s cause of death remained under investigation Thursday morning, Warnock said. His body was scheduled to be examined later that day, he added.

Barnes previously said the body showed no obvious signs of trauma. Still, she said police are investigating the death.
