Lewis County man killed when driver swerves to avoid deer

A Lewis County man was killed Saturday night when an approaching car swerved to avoid a deer, according to Washington State Patrol.

Eric C. Campbell, 44, of Pe Ell died. The man’s name was released after his family was notified, said the Washington State Patrol.

About 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Campbell and his passenger were headed east on State Route 6 in Lewis County, west of Pe Ell. Meanwhile, a 17-year-old Raymond boy was driving west.

Troopers say the Raymond driver swerved to avoid a deer and crashed into Campbell’s vehicle. Campbell died at the scene.

His passenger, a 50-year-old Pe Ell woman, was injured and taken to Providence Centralia Hospital.
