Driver, suspected of DUI, crashes car on Yelm Highway overnight

An Olympia woman, suspected of driving under the influence, crashed her car early Wednesday on Yelm Highway, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

The wreck at Yelm Highway Southeast and Chambers Creek Loop was reported a little after midnight.

Lt. Cameron Simper said the woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI after she drove off the road, broke through a fence and ended up overturned in a dry stormwater pond. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Lacey Fire Battalion Chief Patrick Harn said the driver was already out of the vehicle by the time first responders arrived at the scene and that the driver refused any medical aid.
