South Puget Sound Community College’s Olympia campus was closed on Thursday after police received a suspicious call saying an explosive device was in a campus building.

Lt. Paul Lower said the Olympia Police Department received the call at around 2:20 p.m. from a person saying there was an explosive device in building 22 at SPSCC’s campus on Mottman Road. The caller then hung up and police couldn’t get them back on the line.

Police went to the college and set up a perimeter, closing down surrounding roads and the campus while they searched for an explosive device with staff. Lower said the college was on break so few students were on campus. Washington State Patrol was put on standby.

Lower said nothing suspicious was found and the campus and surrounding roads were reopened.

Centralia College also was temporarily closed on Thursday following a bomb threat called in to the Centralia Police Department, according to the department’s press log. Nothing was found on the campus.

Despite online reports saying there also was a bomb threat at The Evergreen State College, campus police said Friday there was no threat Thursday to the public university on Olympia’s west side.
