Expect these streets to be closed in Olympia for Capital Lakefair this week
Capital Lakefair is back this year after the COVID-19 pandemic halted nearly all in-person celebrations more than two years ago.
The return of Olympia’s more than 60-year-old summer festival also means people will have to take alternative routes to avoid the celebration when they’re not participating in it. According to the state Department of Enterprise Services, there will be several road closures around the Capitol Campus through July 17.
A section of Water Street Southwest to Heritage Park will be closed for festival setup.
Deschutes Parkway Southwest will be closed between Fifth Avenue Southwest and Lakeridge Drive Southwest from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 16.
The north and south diagonals parking area on campus, as well as 11th Avenue Southwest at Capitol Way and Sid Snyder Avenue will be closed from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 16.
Lastly, several areas including behind the Temple of Justice Building, the Governor’s Mansion parking lot, the South Legislative Building parking lot and the trails that lead down to Capitol Lake will be closed Sunday, July 17 to prepare for fireworks.
