1 airlifted, 1 in custody after 2-vehicle wreck on Thurston County road Monday night

A two-vehicle crash on Delphi Road in Thurston County Monday night sent one driver to a regional trauma center while the other was arrested, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

About 9 p.m., sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the intersection at Delphi Road at 62nd Avenue Southwest after multiple reports of a loud crash, Sgt. Brian Cassidy said.

Deputies arrived to find two wrecked vehicles, each driven by men in their 20s, one of whom suffered serious head injuries and was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The other man was not hurt, but was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault, Cassidy said.

The two men were thought to have been racing each other before the crash, Cassidy said.
