Fatal collision in Grays Harbor County on Friday claims life of teen

A 15-year-old died on Friday in a two-vehicle crash just north of Hoquiam. An adult has been taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to a news release by Washington State Patrol, a vehicle with one adult and three minors in it was driving north on State Route 101 and attempted to make a left turn in front of another vehicle traveling south. The southbound vehicle struck the car and came to rest in the turn lane.

The 15-year-old was in the first vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to WSP. The teen was not wearing a seat belt. Another minor was airlifted and another transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The driver of the vehicle, a 42-year-old man from Hoquiam, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

One person in the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The crash partially blocked the roadway for more than six hours.
