Olympia man who died in Aug. 29 shooting on Libby Road has been identified
A man who was shot dead during an argument on Aug. 29 northeast of Olympia has been identified.
Stephan Santella, 39, of Olympia, died from multiple gunshot wounds, Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock told The Olympian.
According to previous reporting from The Olympian, deputies arrived at a home on the 4400 block of Libby Road Northeast after a report of a disturbance with shots fired.
Daniel Woodrow Wilson-Rains, 31, had called 911. He reportedly told dispatchers he shot and killed someone who was attacking his housemate.
Deputies found Santella inside the house and he was pronounced dead. Court records indicate deputies canceled a call for medical aid when they found Santella because he suffered a fatal injury “from which no life saving measures would be beneficial.”
Wilson-Rains and a woman were outside the home when deputies arrived. Investigators determined Wilson-Rains shot Santella multiple times after an argument between the two men. Deputies then arrested Wilson-Rains on suspicion of second-degree murder.
The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Wilson-Rains on Aug. 31 with second-degree murder, domestic violence, while armed with a firearm. Superior Court Judge John Skinder ordered him to be held without bail.
Court records filed last week alleged Wilson-Rains killed Stephan Lynn Duggan-Johnson rather than Stephan Santella. The Olympian asked the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for clarification on Tuesday.
Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Tara Tsehlana said Lynn Duggan-Johnson was one of multiple aliases Santella used and the charging documents would be corrected to Santella.
