A pedestrian was killed when he jumped into traffic on Sunday evening, Oct. 2, off State Route 3 near Bayshore in Mason County.

Washington State Patrol trooper Katherine Weatherwax said WSP received calls about a man walking in and out of the road near milepost 8 just prior to the crash. She said as a car drove by, the man jumped into the road from the shoulder and was hit.

The driver then pulled off to the side of the road. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

It’s unclear whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident, according to a news release from WSP. The road was fully blocked for nearly two hours.

The Mason County Coroner’s office said they have yet to notify next of kin, so the deceased person’s identity has not been released.
