4-car wreck on U.S. 101 injures 2 drivers near Shelton on Tuesday
Two people suffered injuries resulting from a four-vehicle collision on U.S. 101 near Shelton on Tuesday.
The collision occurred at around 5:04 p.m. when a vehicle traveling south hit two other vehicles just north of West Shelton Matlock Road, according to a Washington State Patrol memo. The initial collision caused one of the vehicles to hit a fourth vehicle.
Two of the vehicles came to a rest in the first lane while two others came to rest on the right shoulder, per the memo. WSP and the state Department of Transportation closed the right lane for about three and half hours after the collision.
A 65-year-old Shelton man drove the vehicle that started the collision. First emergency responders had him airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to the memo.
Responders also transported a 42-year-old Shelton man to Mason General Hospital with injuries. He reportedly drove one of the two vehicles that were first hit.
Two other Shelton men who drove separate vehicles, one 68 and the other 59, were not injured in the collision. All four drivers wore their seatbelts, per the memo.
The cause of the collision remained under investigation, but the memo says WSP does not believe drugs or alcohol were involved.
