Remember Meridian Market & Gas? Lacey hasn’t heard from developer since permit approved
The city of Lacey has not heard from the developer of the proposed Meridian Market & Gas since the city approved the conditional use permit for the project in June, Senior Planner Samra Seymour told the City Council on Thursday.
The council voted to approve the conditional use permit for the project at 8808 Campus Glen Drive NE in June. “There’s been no activity on it,” Seymour said.
The conditional use permit gives the developer five years to install the basic infrastructure, said Rick Walk, community and economic development director. But if the applicant should fail to take those steps in five years, the permit lapses, he said.
Here are updates on some other projects in Lacey:
▪ The Hub apartments: Located on Sixth Avenue Southeast in Midtown, they opened in August and are about 30 percent leased, said Senior Planner Sarah Schelling. The development has 151 units, 70 percent of which are studio apartments, she said. A taproom also has been proposed for the site. The developers have a tap room operator, but need to complete the commercial space, said Community and Economic Development Director Walk.
▪ The Modera: Previously known as Woodland Meadows, the development is under construction on 15th Avenue Northeast. Once complete, it will feature a 23-lot single-family neighborhood, 350 apartments spread across 14 buildings, and “carriage houses,” a type of living space above a garage.
▪ Condos are coming: The 28-unit Campus Spring Townhomes are underway on Willamette Drive at Deni Drive Northeast, and the 39-unit Campus Reserve Townhomes are being constructed across the street. Although marketed as townhomes, they are being sold as condos, making them some of the first condo projects in the city in 10 years, Schelling said.
▪ The two apartment projects on Hicks Lake: The 132-unit project has received design review approval because it met the conditions required by the hearings examiner and the city. The 178-unit project is still under review by the state Department of Ecology, Seymour said. Ecology is reviewing a shoreline conditional use permit and a shoreline variance. “This project is going to take a little longer to get going,” she said.
▪ Britton Place North: The 552-unit apartment complex’s site plan has been approved. The developer aims to build it on Britton Parkway, across the street from the existing Britton Place apartments.
▪ Olympia Orthopaedics at the Hickory: An 86,000-square-foot medical office building has been proposed north of Britton Parkway and west of Marvin Road Northeast. The site plan also will allow for other office/retail development.
