Three areas of Lacey to experience 60 days of construction this spring

Lacey City Council on Thursday awarded a $2.57 million construction contract to replace water lines and repave streets in three areas of the city.

The work is expected to start this spring and last 60 days, public works director Scott Egger told the council.

Twelve businesses bid on the work, but the winning bidder was Miles Resources LLC of Puyallup.

Work will take place in these areas:

Woodland Square Loop near Huntamer Park, also known as Lacey’s Midtown.

14th Avenue Southeast, between Sleater-Kinney Road and College Street.

Franz Street Southeast, between Lacey Boulevard Southeast and Pacific Avenue.

According to the city, the contract provides for the installation of about 2,300 linear feet of 6-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch and 12-inch diameter water main as well as street reconstruction with fiber reinforced hot mix asphalt on five streets.

Lacey Mayor Andy Ryder asked whether the work to be done in Lacey’s Midtown will accommodate the additional multifamily housing expected to be created in the area. MJR Development, which owns and has redeveloped many of the buildings around Huntamer Park, has plans to build more apartments east of the park.

Egger said those water and sewer needs will be addressed, but not as part of the springtime work.
