An 83-year-old man walked away with only minor injuries after crashing the small airplane he was flying Thursday afternoon.

Thurston County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash about noon Jan. 12 near Aero Lane Southeast, near the Western Airpark just southeast of Yelm.

The man, who has 50 years of flying experience, according to deputies, had crashed a small twin-engine plane. It was his first crash.

The man had only minor injuries to report, according to a Sheriff’s Office social media.
