Thurston County is sending out 2023 property tax bills. Here’s how you can pay
Some residents can expect their property tax bill to arrive in the mail soon.
Thurston County plans to mail out the notices on Friday. For 2023, the county says it assessed a total of $568.2 million in property taxes, according to a news release.
Residents also may view their property tax amounts through the Thurston County Treasurer’s website.
To pay the bill, residents have multiple options:
▪ Pay online by visiting the Treasurer’s website. There are options to pay via an electronic check at no additional fee or a major credit card which costs an extra 2.35% transaction fee. VISA debit cards also may be used but a flat fee of $3.95 will be charged.
▪ Pay by calling the Treasurer’s Office at 360-786-5550. Transaction fees apply for credit or debit card payments made by phone.
▪ Pay via the mail or drop box. People who chose to mail their payment should address their envelope to Thurston County Treasurer, 3000 Pacific Ave. SE, Olympia, WA 98501. Mailed-in payments must be postmarked by the due date. A drop box can be found in the parking lot just outside the Pacific Avenue building.
▪ Pay in-person at the Treasurer’s Office at 3000 Pacific Ave. SE. You can pay with cash, money order, check, credit card or VISA debit card. However, the same fees for using a credit or debit card also apply here.
The county moved all its general government offices, including the Treasurer’s Office, from its Lakeridge Drive campus to The Atrium on Pacific Avenue in December.
The Treasurer’s Office is located on the bottom floor and on the right side of The Atrium for those who enter through the front doors. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Anyone who does not pay their property tax bill on time will be charged a late fee as required by Washington state law, according to the release.
Residents may choose to receive their property tax bills electronically rather than through the mail. To opt-in, taxpayers can visit the Treasurer’s Office website and create an account.
Anyone who has questions or concerns about the assessed value of their property can visit the Thurston County Assessor’s Office website or call them at 360-867-2200. The Assessor’s Office is near the Treasurer’s Office at The Atrium.
