The music of the Irish

TCMedia Presents: Studio A Concerts series will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a bit early when fiddler Randal Bays, an Olympia native, and guitarist Clint Dye perform their special brand of Irish music Saturday night at Thurston Community Media, 440 Yauger Way SW, Suite C. As it does for all the concerts in its series, TCMedia will transform its Studio A into an intimate nightclub setting. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the music begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $36, or $144 for a table of four. All proceeds support Thurston Community Media.

A classical music love triangle

UK’s Sitkovetsky Trio will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1601 North St. SE, Olympia, as part of Emerald City Music’s concert programming. The world-renowned trio’s concert will peek into the musical friendship of composers Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms, exploring one of the most storied and complicated love triangles of the classical music world: the relationship of Robert and Clara Schumann and their beloved friend, Johannes Brahms. Known through correspondence, this soap-opera-worthy tale explores degrees of musical respect, infatuation, care, and romantic propriety in the 19th century. Tickets are $30 general admission, $40 for premium seating and $10 for students.
