Tumwater School District names new superintendent. Oregonian will start July 1
The Tumwater School District has named Kevin Bogatin to be its next superintendent, the board of directors announced.
Bogatin will start July 1, taking over for interim superintendent Carole Meyer, who has served in the position since Sean Dotson announced he was taking a job in North Thurston Schools last summer.
The Tumwater superintendent position pays a salary of $209,000, which doesn’t include any potential increases the state legislature may provide, TSD spokesperson Laurie Wiedenmeyer said.
The other two finalists were Dr. Erin Murphy, from Washington, and Dr. Sarah Jarnagin, from Utah. Board president Scott Killough said in a news release that they received 17 applications altogether. Killough said each candidate holds great experience and skills, but Bogatin’s experience as a superintendent and his connection with students brought him to the forefront.
“His willingness and drive to connect and work with all of our stakeholders makes him an excellent fit for our community as our next superintendent,” Killough said.
Bogatin is currently the superintendent of North Bend schools in Oregon, where he’s served for four years. Before that, he was the assistant superintendent in Corvallis, Oregon, for eight years.
In the release, Bogatin said he’s honored to have been selected for the Tumwater job, and he’s grown to love the people and community in the district.
“As the next Tumwater School District superintendent, my number one goal will be exceptional student success, growth and well-being,” he said. “I look forward to working together for the benefit of all of our students.”
