A 17-year-old girl is dead and an 18-year-old driver faces serious criminal charges after a two-vehicle wreck on Rainier Road Saturday afternoon, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

The girl died at the scene, Lt. Cameron Simper said Sunday. The 18-year-old Rainier man was injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, he said.

About 5:45 p.m., the two teens were headed north in the 13800 block of Rainier Road Southeast. Simper says the driver lost control of the vehicle as they approached a curve and crossed into the southbound lane where they crashed into an oncoming vehicle.

The 24-year-old Rainier woman driving the southbound vehicle was injured and taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.

Simper said the 18-year-old driver was processed for driving under the influence and now faces vehicular assault and vehicular homicide charges.
