A 66-year-old man suffered a medical emergency and crashed while driving east on US 12 in south Thurston County Saturday morning, according to Washington State Patrol.

Eugene A. Gatsos of Oakville died at the scene. His 61-year-old female passenger, also from Oakville, was not injured, according to State Patrol.

About 9:25 a.m. Saturday, Gatsos was headed east on US 12, approaching Grand Mound.

Troopers say he suffered a heart attack, then drove off the road to the left and crashed into a guardrail on the westbound shoulder.
