The body that was found in Watershed Park on Sunday, March 12, has been identified by the Thurston County coroner.

Jeffrey Smith, 58, of Yelm, was found dead by a person hunting for mushrooms at the park. Smith’s cause of death is pending until a toxicology report is completed.

Police Lt. Paul Lower said a man was in the park around 5 p.m. Sunday hunting for mushrooms off the trails when he came across Smith down an embankment. He shouted for help, and a group walking the trail called 911.

Lower said it appears Smith’s body had been there for some time. Lower said there were no obvious signs of trauma to the body, nor disturbances to the scene.
