Mason County man dies after being hit by car while walking in lane of highway Friday

A Belfair man was struck and killed by a car while walking in the eastbound lane of State Road 300 southwest of Belfair early Friday morning.

According to a news release from Washington State Patrol, a Belfair man was driving east on the road at around 5 a.m. March 17. He attempted to avoid the man walking in the road but struck him just west of Sandhill Road.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by a WSP sergeant and the Mason County Fire Chaplain.

Alcohol was not involved, according to the WSP news release, and no charges were filed against the driver. The road was blocked for nearly three and a half hours.
