A fire destroyed a downtown Olympia house Saturday afternoon and displaced four residents, according to an Olympia fire official.

Fire crews were dispatched about 4:40 p.m. March 18 to a home near Seventh Avenue and Jefferson Street Southeast.

By the time crews arrived, the fire was well underway, Assistant Chief Kevin Bossard said.

“It was a defensive fire and (the house) appears to be a total loss,” he said.

Although no one was hurt, including firefighters, the blaze displaced four residents, Bossard said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, he said.
