Thursday evening fire at Tumwater dental clinic is under investigation
A structure fire Thursday evening caused major damage to the Tyee Dental Clinic in Tumwater.
When Tumwater Fire Department crews arrived at the clinic at 501 Tyee Drive SW about 5 p.m., the front of the building was engulfed in flames and there was heavy smoke in the area, prompting officials to close Littlerock Road in both directions during the evening rush hour to allow firefighters to tackle the fire.
Battalion Chief Donovan Cathey said the road was closed for about an hour.
Cathey said there were no injuries to clinic employees or firefighters, but about 75% of the approximately 5,000-square-foot building was damaged.
According to the fire department’s social media, crews were joined by Engine T1, Battalion T1 and Medic 5. Several neighboring jurisdictions also provided mutual aid, including Olympia, McLane Black Lake, East Olympia and Griffin firefighters.
Cathey said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
