Morning and evening commuters in Thurston County who are powered by Venti-size coffee drinks and rely on rest areas on Interstate 5 will have to make other plans on Tuesday and Wednesday the next two weeks.

That’s because the Maytown and Scatter Creek rest areas will close for annual maintenance, the state Department of Transportation has announced.

The first closure will take place at the Maytown site, which serves southbound traffic. It will close from midnight Tuesday, May 2, to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3.

The second closure is set for next week at the Scatter Creek location, which serves northbound traffic. It will close midnight Tuesday, May 9, to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10.

Crews will close the restrooms and grounds to complete a number of projects to get ready for the busy summer travel season, according to WSDOT.
