Troopers late Friday released the name of the Rochester woman killed in a head-on collision between her GMC Sonoma and a Honda Accord driven by a Yelm woman on Old Pacific Highway east of Lacey Friday morning.

The woman who died was Rebecca J. Andrade McClain, 66.

According to a news release from Washington State Patrol, the crash occurred at 9:18 a.m. McClain was driving east in her 1991 GMC Sonoma as she approached Rockcress Drive. The Yelm driver was traveling west in a 2011 Honda Accord.

McClain’s Sonoma approached a curve in the road, crossed the center line, struck the Yelm driver’s vehicle head-on and came to rest in the middle of the two lanes, blocking the road. The Honda stopped in a driveway on the right shoulder of the road.

McClain was pronounced dead at the scene. The other woman, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia with injuries.

The exact cause of the collision is under investigation. WSP trooper Robert Reyer said the road was closed for about 2-1/2 hours.
