Olympia pedestrian hit in Tacoma after walking in lane of busy highway Thursday

A 30-year-old Olympia woman was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma after being struck by a vehicle on eastbound State Road 16 just passed South Sprague Avenue.

A 30-year-old Olympia woman was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma after being struck by a vehicle on eastbound State Route 16 just past Sprague Avenue.

The woman was walking in the first of three lanes of the highway at about 1 p.m. when a car was traveling in the third lane, according to a news release from Washington State Patrol. The vehicle struck the woman and the car came to rest in the third lane.

The woman was transported to the hospital with injuries; the driver was uninjured. Eastbound State Road 16 was blocked for more than two hours following the incident.
