Fire crews quickly put out an exterior blaze that damaged a home in northwest Olympia Thursday morning.

The fire started at about 4:30 a.m. at a home on Crestline Boulevard Northwest, Assistant Chief of Operations Kevin Bossard said. A resident woke up early, noticed the smoke and applied water until fire crews arrived, he said.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze within about 20 minutes, but he said they remained on-site for about an hour.

Bossard said the fire burned the side of the home and reached into the attic. He said the home suffered minor damage that will require repairs, but no residents were injured or displaced.

The cause of the fire was under investigation Thursday, he said.

Four engines, one ladder truck, two medic units and one battalion chief responded to the blaze, he said.

Bossard advised the public to be wary of fire dangers, especially as the weather heats up, and to have a water source or extinguisher on hand.
