A 18-year-old Shelton man died at an area hospital following a rollover crash on U.S. 101 in Mason County Sunday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

About 7:30 a.m. Sunday, the Shelton man was headed north on U.S. 101 at a “high rate of speed,” according to State Patrol. The driver tried to pass another vehicle using the left turn lane at Ryan Road, just north of Kamilche, but troopers say he lost control, then swerved and crashed into a cable barrier in the highway median. That caused the vehicle to roll, before it came to a stop in the median, according to State Patrol.

The man’s name will be released once his family has been notified.
