A Tumwater semi-truck driver struck and injured a Chehalis pedestrian standing in a highway lane in Lewis County early Thursday morning.

The collision occurred at about midnight on U.S. Highway 12 near Jackson Highway, just north of Lewis and Clark State Park, according to a Washington State Patrol press memo.

The Chehalis pedestrian, 18, reportedly was standing in a westbound lane when the Tumwater driver, 66, struck him. First responders had the pedestrian airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to the memo.

The Tumwater driver was not injured.

WSP attributed the cause of the collision to the pedestrian being in the roadway. The memo says drugs or alcohol were not involved.
