A 36-year-old Olympia man died Friday morning after crashing his pickup truck into two different vehicles in a work zone on southbound Interstate 5 in Lacey near Carpenter Road.

The driver was traveling in the middle lane near milepost 110 at about 4:45 a.m. when he failed to maintain his lane and his pickup struck an attenuator truck on the right lane before hitting an excavator on the right shoulder. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Washington State Patrol investigation led to road closures in the area that lasted more than four hours.

His Chevy Silverado was totaled, while the attenuator truck and excavator have reportable damage.
