The 65-year-old man who died at the scene of a single-vehicle wreck early Thursday morning has been identified, according to the Washington State Patrol and the Thurston County Coroner’s Office.

About 12:25 a.m. Thursday, Thomas A. Gairns of Olympia was traveling south in his 2010 Ford F-150 pick-up truck on U.S. 101 in Thurston County, approaching Old Olympic Highway. Troopers say he then drove to the left, crossed over the cable barrier and the northbound lanes and crashed into a tree.

State troopers believe drugs or alcohol were factors that contributed to the wreck.

The road was blocked for about three hours following the crash.
