A prescribed ecological burn — the type of burn used to control invasive shrubs, restore prairie habitat and reduce the plant growth that can fuel wildfires — was set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, in the Tenino area, the Ecostudies Institute and state Department of Fish and Wildlife announced.

Up to 11 acres could be burned, taking 1-2 hours, according to a news release.

The burn site has been identified as the West Rocky Prairie wildlife area at 2015 143rd Ave. SE, Tenino.

To report nuisance smoke during burn operations, call 360-259-2900. To report nuisance smoke after the burn operations are completed, call 360-701-5145.
