A woman died at the scene of a single-vehicle crash near Lake Saint Clair in Thurston County on Thursday.

Washington State Patrol troopers reported that the woman driving the car left the roadway and crashed into a tree on the opposite side of the road.

Trooper John Datillo said the crash happened at 5:17 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, on State Route 510 near Milepost 6.35, close to Old Pacific Highway. The driver was traveling east when she left the roadway to the right. She overcorrected, crossed all lanes of traffic, entered a ditch on the north side of the road, then struck a tree.

The road was closed for more than four hours while WSP investigated, and the cause is still under investigation. It’s unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved, WSP says.
