Sunday, Oct. 1

Mud Flat Lit Chats: Olympia author Alec Clayton is the first presenter in this new series of book-based online gatherings, and he’ll read a short passage from his latest novel “Locked In,” then lead a discussion about the book. Monday, Oct. 2

The Friendly Flower Garden Club: The group will meet Monday, Oct. 2, at the Mountain Greens Mobile Home Park Clubhouse, 5280 55th Lane SE, Lacey. Social time will begin 9:30 a.m. and the meeting will follow at 10 a.m., followed by a bring-your-own-brown-bag lunch and light refreshments and the program “Propagation: Here’s a low-cost way to increase your garden plants.” Lucy LaFayette, a master gardener, will demonstrate various methods of plant propagation.

Tuesday, Oct. 3

Olympia Timberland Library series on aging: This installment is “Unforgettable Art with Maureen Wells,” an up-close and personal art viewing experience for people with dementia and their caregivers. The event will run from 1:30-2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3 at the library, 313 Eighth Ave. SE, Olympia. The art is supplemented with music and poetry and encourages stimulating conversation and reminiscing.

Wednesday, Oct. 4

The Governor’s Mansion Foundation Mysteries of the Mansion tours: Foundation members will lead the 45-minute tours running at 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Oct. 4 and Oct. 11. The tours are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and each tour is open to 25 guests. Visitors will learn about the Mansion as well as some of the inside stories about the historic house and its residents from “Madame Mystery.” For reservations, visit the Department of Enterprise Services website to complete an online Mansion Tour request form. Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Adult tour guests must present photo identification and all visitors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Masks are not required. It covers Parts A and B, Medicare Advantage Plans, Part D Prescription Plans, Medicare supplements and programs available to limited-income beneficiaries. Saturday, Oct. 7

Oysterfest in Shelton: The West Coast Oyster Shucking Championship and Washington Seafood Festival is set for the first full weekend of October. There’s plenty of seafood and fair favorite fare, family friendly activities, live music, Pacific Northwest microbrews and wines to go with the shucking competitions. The Shelton Skookum Rotary hosts this event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 per day or $16 for both days, with kids 12 and younger getting in free and discounts for active-duty military. The event is held at the Port of Shelton Airport’s Sanderson Field, a half-mile north of Shelton, west of US Highway 101. at 250 W. Sanderson Way. Parking is free and Mason Transit will operate a shuttle within the parking lots. There also is free shuttle service from the Kamilche Transit Center at Little Creek Casino, Shelton Matlock Park & Ride and Olympic College’s Shelton Campus.

Harvest Festival: Join Thurston Conservation District and the South Union Grange as they celebrate the harvest and its 75th anniversary. This family-friendly event will feature a pie-baking contest (enter at 11 a.m., judging at noon), cider pressing (bring your own apples and bottles), soil test drop-off and information booth, kids arts & craft activities, food vendors, workshops, seed swap, recipe swap, face painting and live music. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the grange off Tilley Road at 101st Avenue Southwest.

Sunday, Oct. 8

Sammy Miller and the Congregation: Music group Sammy Miller and The Congregation are on a mission, crisscrossing the country like a vaudevillian revival show, to celebrate the music of 1973 on its 50th anniversary. The seven-piece band is led by Juilliard trained and Grammy-nominated drummer Sammy Miller. Since the band’s inception, the Congregation has played nonstop all over the world including Lincoln Center, The White House, and the Newport Jazz Festival. Hear them at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts, 512 Washington St. SE, Olympia. Tickets are $56 to $25.
