Shelton woman is killed driving the wrong way on northbound I-5 near Lacey

A 21-year-old Shelton woman died early Sunday after she drove the wrong way on I-5 in Lacey and crashed head-on into another vehicle, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The woman was identified as Shelby R. Burton. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office notified her family, according to the State Patrol.

About 1:50 a.m., troopers say Burton headed south in the northbound lanes of I-5 after driving the wrong way from Exit 109. She then crashed head-on into a semi-trailer.

Burton died at the scene. The 38-year-old Graham man driving the truck was not injured, according to State Patrol.

The road was blocked for more than seven hours following the wreck.
