One man is dead and a second man injured after crashing their vehicle on Meridian Road Monday night, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

Both men are thought to be in their early 20s, Lt. Mike Brooks said Tuesday.

About 10 p.m., the two were headed south in the 6200 block of Meridian Road Southeast, approaching Yelm Highway, when the vehicle crashed into a fence and a green utility box, Brooks said.

The man who died was a passenger in the vehicle. He died at the scene, Brooks said.

The driver was injured and taken to an area hospital, he added.

The Sheriff’s Office expects to release more information about the crash on Wednesday, Brooks said.
