The first freeze of fall is coming. Here’s how cold the Olympia area will be
Sunny and clear weather is forecast for the Olympia area this weekend, but that lack of cloud cover also means residents can expect overnight and morning temperatures to be freezing cold, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.
Residents could experience below-freezing temperatures as early as Thursday night and Friday morning, particularly for those who don’t live near the water, said meteorologist Jacob DeFlitch.
As for Friday night and Saturday morning, as well as Saturday night and Sunday morning, it will definitely get cold, he said.
Over the period, temperatures are expected to range between 27 and 30 degrees, which could not only produce frost, but also patchy fog in the area, he said.
Given the chance of frost, DeFlitch reminds residents to move plants indoors. It probably also makes sense to disconnect any hoses from outdoor pipes used to water those plants.
Sunday night and Monday morning temperatures will inch up to 30 or 31 degrees, and then overnight temperatures will warm up a few degrees by mid-week, DeFlitch said.
By Wednesday next week, overnight temperatures likely won’t drop below freezing.
Daytime temperatures this weekend will be very mild at around 50 degrees, he said.
