An elm tree in Sylvester Park in downtown Olympia needs trimming to keep falling branches from injuring people, so the eastern side of the park and Washington Street between Legion Way and Seventh Avenue will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 1, for the tree work.

According to a news release from the Washington state Department of Enterprise Services, the closure will last from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, unless the weather prevents the work from taking place. People can expect noise while crews are trimming the tree, and traffic and parking around the area will be affected.

The tree is being trimmed to keep branches from falling, protect pedestrians, and reduce potential damage to vehicles. The trimming is being done by Treewalker LLC of Tumwater.
