A 33-year-old woman who was hit and killed Monday evening on Interstate 5 in Lacey has been identified.

Jane Waweru died of multiple blunt force injuries, Coroner Gary Warnock told The Olympian. He said Waweru had a Missouri identification card but recently lived in Tumwater.

Washington State Patrol reported a car struck Waweru at about 5:50 p.m. Monday and she died at the scene. Waweru reportedly entered the northbound lanes between Marvin Road and Carpenter Road.

Trooper John Dattilo identified the driver of the car that struck Waweru as a 48-year-old Idaho man. He said the driver was not impaired.

The collision blocked all lanes of northbound I-5 for more than six hours, causing cars to backup for three miles at one point, according to the Washington state Department of Transportation.

Traffic was ultimately diverted at exit 109 and Martin Way East and some drivers were directed to turn around in the median and head south, according to WSDOT.
