Freya Jeanne Meisling is Thurston County’s first baby of 2024, Providence St. Peter Hospital announced.

Meisling was born at 12:48 a.m. Jan. 1, weighing 7 pounds, 14 ounces and measuring 19 inches long, according to the hospital.

MultiCare Capital Medical Center in west Olympia did not have a new year’s baby, a spokesperson said.

Freya is the first child for Julianna and Zach Meisling of Olympia. They came to the hospital on New Year’s Eve, according to the hospital.

“What started as a cautionary checkup on the baby steadily progressed to (Julianna) being admitted and (Freya) delivered in a span of 15 hours,” a news release reads.

“We were pretty anxious, but staff has been amazing and were able to relieve any anxiety we had,” said Zach Meisling in a statement. “The stay has been wonderful. We couldn’t be happier.”

Freya’s middle name was chosen in remembrance of her great-grandmother, Jeanne Meisling, according to the hospital.
