A 49-year-old Elma woman attempting to walk across U.S. Highway 12 was hit by a car but survived Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred at 7:18 a.m. on the 4700 block of U.S. 12 near Elma, according to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol.

The woman reportedly attempted to cross the highway from the westbound side when a driver struck her with their vehicle. The memo says the driver continued in an unknown direction on the highway.

The injured woman managed to walk over and sit down in a bystander’s vehicle on the eastbound shoulder, according to the State Patrol. She was transported to Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma, WSP reported.

The memo says WSP does not know who the driver is nor what vehicle they drove.
